CCL welcomes and supports the measures put in place by the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development to regulate the use of cannabis for private purposes by adults, and, in particular, the duties placed on adults as it relates to children.

CCL submitted its comments concerning the alternatives postulated to deal with the prohibited use, possession and/or cultivation of- or dealing in
cannabis by children. The submissions are rooted in the constitutionally justifiable notion that channelling a child through the criminal justice system as opposed to social systems – designed to protect children – can lead to exacerbated harm and risk.
